As it undergoes no surface correction, it retains all the natural marks of the hide (wrinkles, scars, etc.), which may not suit those seeking a perfectly smooth appearance.

It also requires regular maintenance to preserve its radiance and suppleness, notably with nourishing creams.

Finally, full grain leather is more expensive than other types of leather, as it is made from the noblest parts of the hide.

Leather crust and full grain leather are two different parts of the same ox hide :

• The full grain leather comes from the upper surface of the hide. It is the most noble, resistant, soft and breathable. It preserves the natural grain, with all its visible asperities.
• Leather rind, on the other hand, is the lower part of the hide, recovered after mechanical separation. Less expensive, it is less resistant, often covered with a pigmented or synthetic film to give it a uniform appearance.

Leather crust = inferior quality (corrected appearance, less durability)

Full-grain saddlery leather needs regular care to maintain its suppleness and shine.

No, the full grain leather is not naturally waterproof, as its surface remains breathable and open. This allows it to be nourished and age elegantly, but makes it sensitive to water.

However, it is possible to treat it with a special leather waterproofing agent to protect it without altering its quality. This type of protection is recommended for outdoor use or humid environments.
